This short poem was written to be printed next to a portrait of William Blake by the St Ives painter, Mike Newton, as part of our collaboration in 2022. It is influenced by Blake’s shorter poems such as The Sick Rose. It is, unfortunately, an autobiographical poem.
The Worm
Yesterday I saw a worm Coiled around a windfall’s core.
Today I saw it in my heart, And through my eyes it sees
Blossom, bud and ripened fruit Falling from the trees.
