The Song the Sirens Sing

Persephone’s nymphs are given wings to express their mourning of Persephone’s abduction all around the world.  Their beautiful singing lures sailors onto the rocks where their boats break up and the they drown.  This is what they sang (translated from the Ancient Greek obvs.).

The Song the Sirens Sing

Listen to the tune playing in your heart,

the words already on your tip of tongue,

they speak of coolness in the night when day’s

too hot and bright. They sing of languor too,

of tails and wings that plunge and soar that take you

further than you have ever been before

with oar and flapping sail. You’ve travelled far,

but still have far to go. So, look beyond

this wild and rock-fringed shore, the sudden grind

of keel against the reef, the fury of the waves

will cease and you will find no place for grief,

here in your final home at last, where you

will swim in oceans dense with countless stars.

Come join us, put your broken compass down

and drown.
