Spring and Fall

It is a strange feeling being in Autumn when the rhythm of your body is in Spring. On recent trip to New Zealand we visited Geraldine, a small town south of Christchurch, with an excellent bookshop. We stayed a night there on our way to Arrowtown.  After travelling around South Island for a couple of weeks, we finally made our way back to Christchurch to drop off the camper van.  We stopped in Geraldine again for a couple of nights and noticed, despite the warm sunshine, how Autumnal it had become since our last visit.  While eating lunch in the lovely garden of Cafe Verde, sitting in the shade of a tree, a leaf fell.

The title is taken from a Gerard Manley Hopkins poem. I recommend it.

Spring and Fall

How quickly Autumn
came to this garden. A leaf
falls, taps my shoulder.
